The Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DME) in Tamil Nadu has announced an extension for the first round of medical counselling registration for undergraduate admissions. Eligible candidates who have appeared for the NEET UG 2026 examination can now register, fill in their choices, and lock their selections until 5 PM on August 20, 2026. This decision follows a revised schedule issued by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), which has also extended the All India Quota (AIQ) counselling dates.

The updated counselling schedule aligns Tamil Nadu's state counselling dates for MBBS and BDS admissions with the MCC's notification (Ref. No. U-11011/07/2026-MEC). Candidates are encouraged to review the revised timeline to ensure they do not miss any important deadlines. The key dates for the first round of counselling include the last date for registration and choice filling on August 20, followed by seat allotment processing on August 21, and the announcement of the round 1 seat allotment results on August 22, 2026.

Following the release of the allotment results, candidates will have the opportunity to download their allotment orders from the official Tamil Nadu counselling portal between August 22 and August 28, 2026, until noon. Additionally, candidates must report to their allotted colleges by 5 PM on August 28, 2026, to secure their admissions.

To participate in the Tamil Nadu NEET counselling process, candidates should visit the official website at tnmedicalselection.net. They will need to click on the appropriate links for MBBS and BDS admissions, complete the registration process, fill out the application form, upload necessary documents, and pay a registration fee of INR 500 before submitting their forms.

As the counselling process progresses, candidates are advised to stay informed about any further updates or changes. The DME aims to facilitate a smooth admission process for aspiring medical students in Tamil Nadu, ensuring that all eligible candidates have the opportunity to secure their desired seats in medical colleges across the state.
