The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the schedule for the re-examination of the UGC NET June 2026 for three subjects: English, Commerce, and Sociology. The re-exams are set to take place on September 9 and 10, 2026. This decision follows the identification of multiple errors in the original exam papers, including factual inaccuracies, typographical mistakes, and issues related to translation and language. An expert committee recommended this re-examination to ensure fairness and accuracy in the assessment process.
Candidates who previously registered for the UGC NET June 2026 will not need to submit a new application for the re-exam. The NTA has confirmed that no additional examination fees will be required for those participating in the retest. This clarification aims to alleviate concerns among candidates regarding the re-registration process, allowing them to focus on their preparation without the burden of extra costs.
Eligibility criteria for the UGC NET remain unchanged. Candidates must meet specific educational qualifications and age limits, which differ for those applying for the Assistant Professor position and the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). Notably, there is no upper age limit for Assistant Professor applicants, while JRF candidates must be under 30 years of age as of June 1 of the exam year. Age relaxations are available for candidates from reserved categories, including OBC, SC, and ST.
In terms of qualification determination, the NTA has stated that the number of candidates qualifying for the Assistant Professor role will be equivalent to 6% of those who appeared in the June 2026 test or the retest, whichever figure is higher. The allocation of subject-wise qualifications for JRF and eligibility for admission to PhD programs will follow the guidelines outlined in the Information Bulletin, ensuring that the number of candidates qualifying for each subject will not be reduced.
Further details regarding the examination centers, city allocations, and admit card information will be provided on the official NTA website. Candidates are encouraged to stay updated as the NTA prepares for the re-examination, ensuring a smooth process for all participants involved in the UGC NET June 2026 re-exam.
