VIT Bhopal University is preparing to host its 7th Annual Convocation on October 3, 2026, a milestone event that will see 31 students graduate under the institution’s Support the Advancement of Rural Students (STARS) scheme. These scholars, who hail from rural backgrounds across Madhya Pradesh, have completed their undergraduate and postgraduate studies in various disciplines, including engineering, science, and management.
The STARS initiative, which was launched in 2019 under the guidance of Chancellor Dr. G. Vishwanathan, aims to provide high-quality higher education to meritorious students from economically disadvantaged areas. By offering a comprehensive support package, the university seeks to ensure that financial constraints do not hinder academic potential. Since the program's inception, 255 students have been admitted to the university through this dedicated pathway.
The STARS scheme is designed to remove the financial and logistical barriers that often prevent rural students from accessing top-tier technical education. Selected students receive a 100% tuition fee waiver, alongside fully funded lodging, meals, healthcare, and consistent academic mentorship. This holistic approach allows scholars to dedicate their full attention to their coursework and professional development.
Ms. Kadhambari S. Vishwanathan, reflecting on the program's mission, noted that while talent is distributed evenly throughout the country, access to opportunity is not. She emphasized that the success of these 31 graduates serves as a testament to the fact that merit can thrive when systemic barriers are removed. The graduating cohort has focused on high-demand technical fields, including Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Cloud Computing, Gaming Technology, and E-Commerce technology.
The academic success of the STARS graduates has translated into significant professional achievements. Many of the students in this cohort have secured placements with prominent global organizations, including PayPal, PwC, Bosch, TCS, and ZS Associates. For students like B.Tech Computer Science graduate Aman Rahangdale, who secured a position at PayPal, the program provided the necessary stability to pursue career goals that previously seemed unattainable.
By aligning financial assistance with industry-relevant curriculum, VIT Bhopal continues to facilitate a bridge between rural talent and the corporate sector. The upcoming convocation ceremony will formally recognize the academic journey of these 31 students, marking their transition from the university's scholarship program to the professional workforce.
