WBJEE 2026 Decentralised Counselling Schedule Announced with Revised Eligibility Rules

The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) has officially released the schedule for the 2026 decentralised counselling process. This phase of admissions is specifically designed to fill vacant seats across participating institutions, providing a final opportunity for candidates to secure their preferred courses. The board has confirmed that the entire process will be conducted in two distinct phases, with registration for the first round commencing on September 2, 2026.

In a significant update to the admission policy, the board has revised the eligibility criteria for this year's decentralised counselling. Following numerous requests from students and various stakeholders, the WBJEEB has decided to allow candidates who have already secured admission during the centralized online counselling process to participate in this round. This change is intended to facilitate seat upgrades for students seeking better placement options within the participating colleges.

Key Dates and Counselling Schedule

The decentralised counselling process is set to begin with the publication of the seat matrix on August 31, 2026. Following this, the registration and choice-filling window for the first round will remain open from September 2 to September 4, 2026. The seat allotment results for this initial round are scheduled to be declared on September 6, 2026, with the window for paying the seat acceptance fee extending until September 9, 2026.

The second phase of the process will follow a similar structure, with registration and choice filling taking place between September 10 and September 12, 2026. The seat allotment for the second round is slated for September 13, 2026, and candidates will have until September 15, 2026, to complete the payment of their seat acceptance fees. The board has clarified that fresh registration and choice filling are required for each round. Furthermore, candidates should note that once choices are submitted, they cannot be reordered. While two phases are currently scheduled, the board has indicated that additional rounds may be conducted if necessary.

Eligibility and Admission Requirements

For the purpose of decentralised counselling, the board will accept scores from the WBJEE, JEE Main, and 12th standard examinations. The revised notification explicitly states that all candidates are now eligible to participate, regardless of their current admission status. This marks a departure from previous guidelines, effectively removing the restriction that previously barred students who had already accepted a seat in the centralized process from applying for an upgrade.
