AIBE 22 Registration 2026: Essential Documents and Application Guidelines Released

The Bar Council of India (BCI) has officially commenced the registration process for the All India Bar Examination (AIBE) XXII. Candidates intending to appear for the upcoming examination are advised to complete their applications through the official portal before the deadline of October 27, 2026. The registration window, which opened on August 19, 2026, requires applicants to carefully prepare their documentation to ensure a smooth submission process.

As the examination date approaches, the BCI has emphasised the importance of having all necessary academic and personal identification records ready. Because eligibility criteria can vary based on a candidate's current academic status—whether they are final-semester students or law graduates—understanding the specific document requirements is a critical step for all prospective examinees.

Document Requirements and Eligibility Criteria

The documentation required for the AIBE 22 application depends largely on the candidate's progress in their legal education. For those who have completed their LLB degree but have not yet received their formal certificate, the BCI requires the submission of self-attested scanned copies of all relevant semester marksheets. Specifically, candidates pursuing a three-year LLB course must provide marksheets from semesters I through V, while those enrolled in five-year integrated LLB programs are expected to provide marksheets covering semesters I through IX.

A significant clarification for this year's cycle is the status of the enrolment certificate. The BCI has confirmed that an enrolment certificate with a State Bar Council is not a mandatory requirement for AIBE 22 registration. This policy allows eligible law graduates who have not yet enrolled, or those who have previously surrendered their enrolment certificate, to participate in the examination. However, candidates who are currently in their final year of a law degree, or graduates who have not yet registered with a State Bar Council, must submit an official AIBE undertaking form as part of their application package.

Examination Format and Preparation

In addition to the application procedures, the BCI has reiterated the current format for the All India Bar Examination. The test is no longer conducted as an open-book examination. Candidates are permitted to bring only bare acts to the examination hall, and these must be free of any handwritten notes or annotations. The BCI advises candidates to familiarise themselves with the updated exam pattern and syllabus to ensure adequate preparation.

Applicants are encouraged to verify that all uploaded documents are clear, self-attested, and accurately reflect the information provided in their application forms. Discrepancies between submitted documents and form details can lead to complications during the verification process.
