CBSE Announces Special Class 12 Exams for Students Affected by West Asia Crisis

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially announced that it will conduct special Class 12 board examinations for students residing in West Asian countries. This decision follows the cancellation of the original 2026 board examinations in the region due to the ongoing crisis, which had previously necessitated the implementation of an alternative assessment scheme to declare student results.

The board has now opened the List of Candidates (LOC) submission process for these special examinations, which commenced on September 22. This initiative is specifically designed to accommodate students who were dissatisfied with the results generated under the earlier assessment scheme, providing them with a formal opportunity to sit for examinations in subjects that could not be held as originally scheduled.

Examination Details and Application Deadlines

The special examination cycle will cover a total of 40 subjects, comprising 20 academic subjects and 20 skill-based subjects. Both regular and private candidates who were affected by the cancellation of the board exams in West Asian countries are eligible to participate in this process. By opting for these exams, students will have the opportunity to replace their previous assessment-based results with the scores obtained in these upcoming tests.

The CBSE has set a strict timeline for the submission of applications. Both regular and private candidates must ensure their schools complete the application process by the deadline of September 26. The board’s notification clarifies that this window is intended to facilitate the registration of all eligible students who wish to improve upon or replace their existing assessment results.

Background on the Assessment Scheme

Earlier this year, the CBSE had introduced an Assessment Scheme on March 27, 2026, to address the disruption caused by the situation in West Asia. Under this framework, the board declared results for regular candidates on May 13, 2026, followed by the declaration of results for private candidates. While this scheme allowed for the timely announcement of academic outcomes, the board acknowledged that several students expressed dissatisfaction with the assessment-based grading. The introduction of these special examinations serves as a corrective measure to ensure that students have a fair chance to demonstrate their academic performance through traditional examination methods.
