The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially opened the online application window for students intending to appear as private candidates in the Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations for 2027. The registration process begins today, October 8, 2026, and is accessible exclusively through the private candidate portal on the official CBSE website.

This announcement pertains to students who meet specific eligibility criteria, including those who were previously declared as 'Essential Repeat,' candidates eligible for compartment exams, and those who passed in previous years but wish to improve their performance in one or more subjects. The board has issued distinct notifications for both Class 10 and Class 12, outlining the requirements for prospective candidates.

Application Procedures and Eligibility Requirements

The board has clarified that the entire application process is conducted online. Candidates are not required to submit physical copies of their forms to the CBSE regional offices. Once the online form is completed and the examination fee is processed, applicants are advised to download and retain a digital copy of the submission for their personal records.

To ensure a smooth registration process, candidates should have necessary documentation prepared in advance. This includes a recent passport-size photograph, details from their previous CBSE marksheet, and their previous roll number, school number, and centre number. Candidates requiring special arrangements due to medical conditions must also have their disability or medical certificates ready for upload if applicable.

Examination Fees and Schedule

The examinations for private candidates are scheduled to take place alongside the main board examinations in February, March, and April 2027. Regarding the financial requirements, the standard examination fee is set at INR 320 per subject for candidates within India. The board has also noted that for Class 12 students, additional fees may apply for practical examinations where relevant.

Applicants should be aware that the board has established a provision for late submissions. A late fee of INR 2,000 per candidate will be levied in addition to the standard examination fees for those who apply during the designated late-fee window. As the process is entirely digital, students are encouraged to verify all details before final submission to avoid complications. Further updates regarding the examination schedule and admit card releases will be provided by the board in due course.
