The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially opened the registration window for private candidates wishing to appear for the 2027 Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations. Students who meet the specific eligibility criteria can now access the application portal through the board's official website to complete their submissions.

This registration process is intended for students who fall under designated categories, including those declared as 'Essential Repeat' in the 2026 examinations or those placed in the 'Compartment' category during the 2026 Main or Supplementary exams. Additionally, the window is open to students who previously passed Class 10 in 2026 and are seeking to improve their performance in one or more subjects, as well as candidates who were declared 'Fail' or 'Essential Repeat' in specified previous years.

Application Deadlines and Fee Structure

The board has established a clear timeline for the submission of applications. The deadline to submit the form without incurring a late fee is October 23, 2026. For those who miss this initial window, a late-fee period will be available from October 24 to October 30, 2026. During this extended period, candidates are required to pay a late fee of INR 2,000 in addition to the standard examination fees.

Regarding the examination costs, the fee for candidates within India is set at INR 320 per subject for additional subjects. For international candidates, the fees are structured at INR 1,100 per subject for those in Nepal and INR 2,200 per subject for candidates residing in other countries. The board has explicitly stated that all applications and payments must be processed exclusively through the online portal. Offline methods, such as demand drafts, cheques, money orders, or postal orders, will not be accepted.

Submission Process and Examination Schedule

To apply, candidates must navigate to the 'Private Candidate' section on the official CBSE website. The application process requires students to enter their personal information, previous examination details, and select their desired subjects and examination city. After uploading the necessary documents and photographs, candidates must complete the payment through the provided online options. It is essential for students to download and save a copy of the submitted form for their records.

The examinations for these private candidates are scheduled to take place in February, March, and April 2027, aligning with the board's main examination cycle. Students are encouraged to review the eligibility conditions and instructions provided on the portal thoroughly before finalizing their applications to ensure all details are accurate.
