The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has officially released the specimen question papers and corresponding answer keys for the upcoming ICSE and ISC 2027 board examinations. These resources, now available on the council’s official website and the CAREERS portal, are designed to help students navigate the evolving assessment structure for the 2027 academic cycle.
In a significant shift aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the council has introduced a major change in the composition of the question papers. Approximately 50% of the weightage in the ICSE and ISC 2027 examinations will now be dedicated to higher-order thinking skills. This approach aims to shift the focus toward competency-based learning, requiring students to demonstrate their ability to apply, analyze, evaluate, and create rather than relying solely on rote memorization.
The newly released specimen papers serve as a primary guide for students to familiarize themselves with the updated exam format, section distribution, and specific question patterns. By reviewing the answer keys, students can gain insight into the expected standards of response and the depth of understanding required for the new competency-based questions. The council has also extended these resources to include ICSE Class 9 and ISC Class 11 students for the 2027 cycle.
For the ICSE Class 10 level, specimen papers have been provided for core subjects including English Language and Literature, History and Civics, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, alongside elective subjects like Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. Similarly, for the ISC Class 12 level, the release covers subjects such as Modern English, Political Science, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, and various science and technology streams. For subjects not explicitly included in this initial release, the council has confirmed that the existing assessment rubrics from the 2026 examination cycle will remain in effect.
While these specimen papers are essential tools for preparation, the CISCE has issued a clarification to manage expectations. The council noted that the actual board examination papers may differ from the specimen versions in both content and format. Students are advised to prioritize the topic-wise weightage and regulations outlined in the official syllabuses when preparing for their exams.
To further support student preparation, the council has also made question papers from the 2026 Main and Improvement examinations available on their website. Students can access these materials by visiting the official CISCE portal, navigating to the relevant ICSE or ISC examination section, and downloading the required PDFs. This comprehensive approach to providing practice materials is intended to help candidates better prepare for the rigorous demands of the 2027 board examinations.
