CLAT 2027 Registration Opens: Eligibility and Exam Details Announced

The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has officially commenced the registration process for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2027. Prospective students aiming for admission into undergraduate and postgraduate law programmes across participating institutions can now submit their applications through the official website at consortiumofnlus.ac.in. The application window is scheduled to remain open until October 31, 2026, at 11:59 PM.

A significant aspect of this year's admission cycle is the flexibility regarding academic background. The Consortium has confirmed that there is no subject-specific limitation for candidates applying for the five-year integrated LL.B. programmes. Students from Arts, Commerce, Science, and other academic streams are eligible to apply, provided they meet the minimum qualification requirements. Furthermore, there is no upper age limit for those appearing for the undergraduate examination.

Eligibility Criteria and Examination Structure

To be eligible for the undergraduate programme, candidates must have successfully passed their Class 12 or an equivalent examination with a minimum of 45% marks. For candidates belonging to the SC, ST, and PwD categories, the requirement is relaxed to 40%. Students currently appearing for their qualifying Class 12 examinations in March or April 2027 are also permitted to apply, though they will be required to present proof of passing at the time of final admission.

The CLAT 2027 examination is set to take place on December 6, 2026, in an offline format. The test will be conducted from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, with an extended duration provided for eligible PwD candidates, who will have until 4:40 PM to complete the paper. The undergraduate test will consist of 120 multiple-choice questions covering English Language, Current Affairs including General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques. Each correct response will be awarded one mark, while a penalty of 0.25 marks will be applied for every incorrect answer.

Application Process and Fee Details

Candidates interested in applying should visit the official portal, select the 'CLAT 2027' tab, and proceed to the 'New Registration' link to create an account. Once registered, applicants can log in to complete the application form and pay the required fee. The application fee is set at INR 4,000 for General and OBC category candidates, while candidates from SC, ST, BPL, and PwD categories are required to pay INR 3,500. All payments must be made online and are non-refundable.

The Consortium has advised all applicants to verify their details thoroughly before final submission. It has been explicitly stated that certain information, such as the chosen programme and category, cannot be modified once the application has been submitted and the fee has been processed. Candidates are encouraged to complete their submissions well before the October 31, 2026, deadline to avoid any last-minute technical issues.
