CTET 2026 Examination Date Delayed; CBSE Resumes Application Process for 22nd Edition

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a postponement of the CTET exam date for its 22nd edition, along with the reopening of the application window for the 2026 examination. The new application period will be open from August 25 to September 1, 2026, allowing candidates who missed the initial registration opportunity to submit their applications. This decision aims to accommodate eligible candidates in light of recent directives from the Supreme Court.

According to the latest notice from CBSE, the application portal will remain accessible for a limited time, providing a crucial chance for those who were unable to register earlier. Candidates who have already submitted their applications are not required to reapply. The board has indicated that the revised exam date will be announced following the closure of the reopened application window, leaving candidates awaiting further updates.

The decision to extend the application period stems from a Supreme Court ruling that emphasized the importance of offering eligible teachers a fair opportunity to meet the statutory requirements for the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). This ruling was part of the Review Petition (Civil) Diary No. 53434/2025 in Civil Appeal No. 1385/2025, which highlighted the need for inclusivity in the examination process.
