The University of Delhi has officially commenced the application process for its Competence Enhancement Scheme (CES) for the 2026 academic session. Designed to align with the lifelong learning objectives outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the initiative provides a unique opportunity for professionals, senior citizens, and lifelong learners to engage with the university's academic environment without enrolling in a full-time degree programme.
Under this scheme, the university allows interested candidates to register for a maximum of two papers, or up to eight credits, per semester. These enrolments are facilitated through supernumerary seats, which are capped at 10 percent of the sanctioned strength for any given class. This structure ensures that external learners can access university-level coursework alongside regular students while maintaining the integrity of existing academic programmes.
Admission to the Competence Enhancement Scheme is determined by a merit-based selection process. Applicants must meet the specific prerequisites established for their chosen papers, and final enrolment is subject to the availability of seats within the respective colleges or university departments. The scheme is open to candidates of any age or professional background, provided they satisfy the necessary academic requirements for the courses they intend to pursue.
To apply, candidates must visit the official CES portal at ces.du.ac.in. The registration process requires applicants to provide personal details, educational qualifications, and contact information. As part of the submission, candidates are required to upload scanned copies of relevant certificates, proof of identity, a photograph, a signature, and, where applicable, a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer. A non-refundable registration fee of INR 6,100 per paper is applicable for all applicants.
Once admitted, participants in the Competence Enhancement Scheme are integrated into the regular academic cycle. This includes attending classes according to the established university schedule, participating in internal assessments, and sitting for end-semester examinations alongside full-time students. Upon the successful completion of these requirements, the university will award and register the credits earned by the learner.
The university has emphasised that this programme is specifically intended for academic upgrading rather than degree attainment. Prospective students are encouraged to review the available papers and ensure they meet the specific subject prerequisites before completing their online registration through the dedicated portal. All applications must be submitted directly via the official website to be considered for the current semester.
