DRDO Announces Scientist B Recruitment Plans Based on GATE 2027 Scores

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has officially announced its recruitment strategy for Scientist B positions, confirming that the selection process will be based on scores from the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027. The notification, issued by the Recruitment & Assessment Centre (RAC) under the Ministry of Defence, outlines that candidates will be evaluated based on their performance in relevant Science and Engineering subjects, including Life Sciences and Engineering Sciences.

Aspiring candidates are advised that a valid GATE score is a mandatory requirement for the shortlisting process. As the recruitment is tied to the upcoming examination cycle, the organisation has directed interested individuals to monitor the official RAC website, rac.gov.in, for the release of the comprehensive advertisement, which will detail specific eligibility criteria and further procedural requirements.

GATE 2027 Examination Schedule and Application Details

The GATE 2027 examination, which serves as the primary gateway for this recruitment drive, is currently open for registration. Candidates intending to apply for the Scientist B roles must ensure they complete their registration for the entrance test through the official portal at gate2027.iitm.ac.in. The standard application window remains open until September 27, 2026, with a subsequent period for late submissions available from September 28 to October 5, 2026.

Following the registration phase, the GATE 2027 examinations are scheduled to take place over several days in February 2027, specifically on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21. The DRDO has emphasised that because GATE marks are the primary metric for determining eligibility for these research and development positions, candidates should focus their preparations on the upcoming test. Once the examination results are processed, the RAC will initiate the shortlisting of candidates, who will then be invited to participate in a personal interview as the final stage of the recruitment process.
