The window for submitting applications for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 without incurring a late fee is set to conclude today. As the organising institute for this year's examination, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has reminded prospective candidates that the regular registration period ends today, after which an extended window with additional charges will commence.

Candidates who have not yet completed their registration are advised to visit the official website at gate2027.iitm.ac.in to submit their forms via the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering Online Application Processing System (GOAPS). Following today's deadline, the registration process will remain open until October 12, 2026, though applicants will be required to pay a late fee for submissions made during this extended period.

Application Process and Fee Structure

To register, candidates must navigate to the official portal and proceed through the DigiLocker login system. The process requires users to either use a verified or unverified DigiLocker account, provide consent for a three-year validity, and complete a facial registration step. Once these initial requirements are met, applicants are redirected to the GOAPS portal to input personal and academic details, upload necessary documentation, and finalize the payment of the examination fees.

The fee structure for the examination is tiered based on the registration window and candidate category. For female candidates, as well as those belonging to SC, ST, or PwD categories, the regular registration fee is INR 1000, which increases to INR 1500 during the extended period. For all other candidates, the fee is set at INR 2000 for regular registration, rising to INR 2500 if submitted during the late fee window.

Upcoming Schedule and Exam Details

Following the conclusion of the registration process, IIT Madras has scheduled a correction window from October 14 to October 21, 2026. During this time, candidates who have successfully registered will be permitted to update specific personal and examination details. It is important to note that this facility is restricted to those who have already completed their application submission.

The GATE 2027 examination is slated to take place over several days in February 2027, specifically on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21. The test will be conducted in two shifts across 30 different subject papers. While the overall dates have been confirmed, the specific subject-wise schedule is expected to be released by the authorities in the near future.
