The window for submitting applications for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 is set to close today. IIT Madras, the organizing institute for this year's examination, has confirmed that the registration portal will shut down at 10:29 am. This marks the final opportunity for prospective candidates to register for the exam, as officials have explicitly stated that no further extensions to the deadline will be provided.
Candidates who have yet to finalize their submissions are encouraged to complete the process immediately through the official website at gate2027.iitm.ac.in. The current registration period includes a late fee, and applicants are reminded that the application fee is non-refundable. For candidates belonging to the SC, ST, or PwD categories, as well as female applicants, the registration fee is INR 1500. For all other applicants, including international candidates, the fee is set at INR 2500. Those opting to appear for two papers will be required to pay double the standard fee.
A mandatory requirement for this year's application process is the use of DigiLocker. IIT Madras has stipulated that Indian nationals must register via a verified or under-verified DigiLocker account to proceed. Applicants are advised to review the specific DigiLocker guidelines provided on the official portal before beginning their application. To ensure a smooth submission, candidates should ensure their personal details, including name, date of birth, email address, mobile number, and address, are accurately updated within their DigiLocker profile.
Technical issues during the registration process can often be resolved by clearing the browser cache or using an incognito window if the portal indicates a verification failure. When configuring DigiLocker settings, candidates should set their consent validity to three years and select the verification option specifically for admission purposes. Furthermore, applicants must ensure their photograph and signature meet the prescribed specifications, utilizing the provided GATE photo resizer tool if necessary. Reserved and PwD category candidates are required to organize their supporting documentation into a separate folder as per the instructions provided by the institute.
Once the application is submitted, candidates can monitor their status using their enrolment ID. The review process typically takes between 15 to 20 days, though some applications may experience delays. If an application is marked as being under scrutiny, it indicates that the documents are currently being reviewed by the authorities.
In the event of any discrepancies or defects found in the submitted documents, GATE officials will communicate directly with the candidate via their registered email address, providing a specific deadline for rectification. Consequently, applicants are urged to monitor their email inboxes regularly. Should any excess fees be deducted during the transaction process, the institute has noted that the additional amount will be refunded to the candidate within 15 to 20 days. It is recommended that all applicants retain a copy of their payment receipt for their records.
