The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has officially launched the registration process for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 today, August 27, 2026. Prospective candidates aiming to pursue MTech or PhD programmes can now access the application forms through the official GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) portal at gate2027.iitm.ac.in.
The commencement of the registration window follows a brief postponement, as the process was originally scheduled to begin on August 14. With the portal now live, applicants are encouraged to complete their submissions through the official website only, as authorities have advised against using third-party platforms to ensure the security of personal and academic data.
Candidates have until September 27, 2026, to submit their applications without incurring any additional charges. For those who are unable to meet this initial deadline, an extended registration window will remain open until October 5, 2026, though this period will require the payment of a late fee.
The application fee structure for GATE 2027 is categorised based on the candidate's profile and the timing of the submission. For female candidates, as well as those belonging to SC, ST, and PwD categories, the regular application fee is set at INR 1,000 per test paper, which increases to INR 1,500 during the extended period. For all other candidates, the regular fee is INR 2,000, rising to INR 2,500 for late submissions.
Before initiating the online application process, candidates are advised to have all necessary documentation prepared, including an updated DigiLocker account. The application procedure involves registering on the GOAPS portal, filling out the required details, uploading the necessary documents, and completing the fee payment. Applicants should also have their preferred test papers and city choices finalised to ensure a smooth submission process.
IIT Madras has scheduled the GATE 2027 examinations to take place over six days in February 2027. The tests will be conducted for 30 subjects on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21. Candidates are encouraged to monitor the official website regularly for any further updates regarding the examination process.
