IIT Roorkee Awards 2,701 Degrees During Two-Day Convocation 2026

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee recently concluded its two-day Convocation 2026, marking a significant milestone for the institution by conferring a total of 2,701 degrees. The ceremony served as a platform to celebrate the academic accomplishments of students across a diverse range of disciplines, highlighting the institute's ongoing commitment to fostering innovation and excellence in higher education.

The first day of the event was dedicated to the undergraduate cohort, during which 1,277 students were officially awarded their degrees. The ceremony featured prominent guests, including the National Security Advisor of India, Ajit Kumar Doval, who delivered the convocation address. The event was also attended by the Chief of Defence Staff of India, General N. S. Raja Subramani, while the Chairman of the Board of Governors at IIT Roorkee, Adv. Harish Salve, presided over the proceedings.

Academic Achievements and Programme Milestones

The undergraduate degrees conferred during the first day of the convocation spanned several academic programmes, including B.Tech, B.Arch, Integrated M.Tech, Integrated M.Sc., IDD, B.S., and the BS-MS programme. Notably, this year marked the first time the institute awarded the BS-MS degree as part of its five-year Dual Degree curriculum. According to official data, the undergraduate group comprised 1,001 male and 276 female students.

In addition to the presentation of degrees, the institute recognised exceptional academic performance through a series of prestigious medals. The President Gold Medal was awarded to Srivaradan Balaji, while the Director Gold Medal was presented to Navneet Kumar. Other notable recipients included Aashi Jain, who received the President of India Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal, Roopam Taneja, who was awarded the Institute Silver Medal, and Sukrit Jindal, who received the Institute Bronze Medal.

The two-day event underscored the institution's broader focus on research and academic development. By reaching a record total of 2,701 degrees conferred across the entire convocation, IIT Roorkee continues to emphasise its role in preparing graduates for professional and research-oriented careers. The ceremony concluded by honouring the collective efforts of the students and the academic community in maintaining the institute's standards of excellence.
