NEET PG 2026: Over 2.65 Lakh Candidates Appear as Re-exam Announced for Affected Students

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has officially released the attendance statistics for the NEET PG 2026 examination, which took place on August 30. Out of the 2,73,096 candidates who registered for the postgraduate medical entrance test, a total of 2,65,980 aspirants appeared at 1,111 examination centres across the country. This reflects a high turnout, with over 97 per cent of registered students participating in the assessment.

The examination was conducted in a single shift, running from 9 AM to 12:30 PM, with standardized security protocols and real-time digital monitoring implemented at all venues to ensure the integrity of the process. While the vast majority of candidates completed the test without incident, the board has confirmed that technical difficulties impacted a specific group of students.

Technical Disruptions and Re-examination Schedule

Despite the widespread successful conduct of the exam, an internal power failure at a centre in Jaipur resulted in technical issues for 2,445 candidates. Consequently, the examination was successfully completed for 2,63,535 students nationwide, while the affected group was unable to finish the paper under the standard conditions.

In response to the situation, the NBEMS has taken immediate action to protect the interests of the impacted aspirants. The board has officially ordered a re-examination specifically for those candidates who faced the technical outage in Jaipur. This follow-up test is scheduled to be held on September 5 to ensure that all students are provided with a fair opportunity to complete their assessment and receive their results.
