The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has introduced a significant change to the fee payment protocols for the NEET PG 2026 counselling process. This update specifically addresses the financial requirements for candidates who are considering further rounds of seat allocation, providing them with more flexibility during the initial reporting phase.
Under the revised guidelines, students who have been allotted a seat in the first round but are not satisfied with their placement now have the option to defer their first-year tuition fee payment. This change is designed to assist candidates who intend to participate in future rounds of counselling to secure a preferred seat through the upgradation process.
The new policy distinguishes clearly between candidates who choose to secure their current allotment and those who wish to explore better options. For students who are content with their Round 1 seat allocation and choose to freeze their seat, the standard procedure remains in effect. These candidates are required to complete all admission formalities, which include the payment of the first-year annual course fee directly to their respective allotted institutes.
Conversely, candidates who opt for seat upgradation are no longer required to deposit their first-year tuition fees during the current reporting window. By choosing this path, these students can defer their financial commitment until their final seat is confirmed in subsequent rounds of the counselling process. This adjustment aims to simplify the administrative burden for students navigating the multi-round allocation system.
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has established the reporting and physical document verification window for Round 1 of the NEET PG 2026 counselling process. This phase is currently active and is scheduled to conclude on November 2, 2026, having commenced on October 26, 2026.
Candidates who have decided to freeze their seats must ensure that they complete both the document verification process and the payment of their first-year fees at their allotted colleges before the November 2 deadline. It is essential for all participants to adhere strictly to these timelines to maintain their eligibility for the current academic session. Students are advised to monitor official notifications regarding any further developments in the counselling schedule as the process progresses toward subsequent rounds.
