The National Institute of Design (NID) has officially commenced the registration process for the Design Aptitude Test (DAT) 2027. Aspiring students looking to secure admission into undergraduate and postgraduate design programmes for the 2027-28 academic session are invited to submit their applications through the institute's dedicated portal at admissions.nid.edu.
The application window is currently active and will remain open until November 30, 2026, at 11:59 PM. Following the conclusion of the registration period, the institute has scheduled a correction window from December 1 to December 3, 2026, allowing candidates to rectify any potential errors in their submitted forms. The NID DAT Prelims 2027 examination is slated to take place on December 20, 2026.
Before finalizing their applications, candidates are strongly advised to conduct a thorough review of all entered information to prevent complications during the admission process. Accuracy is paramount, particularly regarding personal details; applicants must ensure their full name matches the records on their Class 10, SSC, or SSLC marksheets. Furthermore, it is critical to verify the date of birth, gender, and category details, as these are essential for administrative processing.
Communication is a vital component of the application process. Candidates must provide an active, personal email address and a functional mobile number, as the NID uses these contact points for all official admission-related correspondence. Additionally, applicants should double-check their selected programme—whether it is the B.Des, the 5.5-year Professional Education M.Des (Integrated Pathway), or the regular M.Des programme—to ensure it aligns with their academic goals.
The submission process also requires the upload of specific documents, including a photograph, signature, and any applicable supporting certificates. These must strictly adhere to the prescribed formats and specifications provided by the institute. Before proceeding to the payment stage, candidates should confirm the application fee relevant to their specific category and chosen programme. The fee structure is tiered, ranging from INR 500 for PwD and third-gender candidates to INR 3000 for General, GEN-EWS, and OBC-NCL applicants. Overseas candidates are subject to a fee of US$125.
To register, candidates should visit the official website at admissions.nid.edu and select the appropriate programme to initiate the sign-up process. After entering basic details such as nationality, category, and date of birth, applicants will need to verify their contact information via an OTP process. Once registered, candidates can log in using their credentials to complete the detailed application form, upload the necessary documentation, and finalize the payment. It is recommended that all applicants download or save the confirmation page once the submission is successful to serve as a record of their application.
