The National Testing Agency (NTA) has introduced a new provision for candidates appearing for the JEE Main 2027 Session 1 examination, allowing those who committed errors during the initial registration process to submit a fresh application. This update, detailed in a public notice issued on October 30, 2026, provides a pathway for students to rectify mistakes in their registration data even if they have already generated an application number or completed the fee payment process.

The decision follows a series of representations from students who reported inaccuracies in their submitted forms. By allowing a fresh application, the NTA aims to ensure that candidates can present their correct information without being constrained by the limitations of their previous, erroneous submissions. This measure is intended to streamline the application process and reduce potential complications during the examination phase.

Guidelines for Fresh Applications and Fee Payments

Candidates opting to submit a new application must ensure that the entire process, including the payment of the examination fee, is completed within the designated deadline set by the NTA. It is essential for applicants to verify that their payment is successful and that a final confirmation page is generated, as this serves as proof of a valid registration.

The NTA has clarified the hierarchy of these applications: only the most recent application form—provided it is accompanied by a successful fee payment and a generated confirmation page—will be considered valid. If a student initiates a fresh application but fails to complete the payment or generate the confirmation page, their previous, fully completed application will remain the valid record. Furthermore, the agency has reminded students that the facility to modify specific details in existing applications will be available from November 27 to November 29, 2026, for those who do not require a completely new registration.

Important Compliance and Examination Rules

While the NTA is facilitating this process, it has strictly reiterated that candidates are permitted only one attempt per session. Submitting multiple application forms does not grant the right to appear for the examination more than once. The NTA has warned that appearing for the exam multiple times using different application numbers will be classified as an Unfair Means (UFM) case, which will lead to disciplinary action as outlined in the Information Bulletin.

However, the agency noted that merely holding multiple application numbers without attempting the examination multiple times will not be treated as a UFM case.
