The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially concluded the re-examination for the UGC NET June 2026 English paper. The test, which took place on September 9, was held during the morning shift from 9 AM to 12 PM. This special session was organised following reports of errors in the original question papers for English, Commerce, and Sociology during the initial June 2026 examination cycle.

Candidates who participated in the English re-exam are now looking toward the next stages of the assessment process, which include the release of the provisional answer key, individual response sheets, and the final results. While the NTA has not yet confirmed a specific date for the publication of these documents, students are advised to monitor the official website for updates rather than relying on unofficial timelines.

Exam Analysis and Next Steps

Initial feedback from candidates suggests that the English re-exam maintained a moderate difficulty level. The newly prepared paper featured questions spanning core areas such as literature, linguistics, literary theory, and research aptitude. As the paper was newly drafted by the NTA, experts suggest that candidates should review the specific difficulty level and expected good attempts independently of previous exam patterns.

Following the standard procedure for the UGC NET, the NTA is expected to release the provisional answer key alongside the question papers and recorded responses. Once these are available, a challenge window will be opened, allowing candidates to submit objections regarding any discrepancies. A panel of experts will then review these challenges to finalise the answer key, which will serve as the basis for calculating the final results for the re-exam candidates.

Status of Other Subjects and Results

While the re-exam process for English, Commerce, and Sociology continues, the NTA has already declared the results and final answer keys for the other 84 subjects of the June 2026 session. These results are currently accessible on the official portal, where candidates can download their scorecards using their application number and date of birth.

The Commerce re-exam is scheduled for the afternoon shift on September 9, while the Sociology re-exam is set to take place on September 10. Once all re-examinations are complete and the final answer keys are processed, the NTA will release the updated results and cutoff marks for these specific subjects. Candidates who meet or exceed the established cutoff criteria will be eligible for the subsequent stages of the recruitment process.
