The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) has officially announced a significant shift in its assessment structure for Class 10 students. Starting from the 2026-27 academic session, the board will conduct board examinations twice a year. This policy change aligns with the objectives outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aiming to provide students with greater flexibility and more opportunities to demonstrate their academic proficiency.
Under the new system, the primary board examination will take place in February and March, followed by a second, remedial examination scheduled for May. This initiative is designed to reduce the pressure on students by allowing them a second chance to improve their performance within the same academic year, rather than waiting for the next annual cycle.
The remedial examination serves as an optional platform for students who wish to enhance their marks. Candidates who successfully pass the main examination in February-March may choose to appear for the second exam in up to three subjects. When calculating the final result, the board will consider the higher of the two scores achieved in each subject. For instance, if a student secures a higher grade in the remedial exam compared to the main exam, that improved score will be reflected in their final mark sheet.
Participation in the second examination is entirely voluntary for those who have already passed the main board exam. Students who are satisfied with their initial results are not required to sit for the remedial tests. For these candidates, the passing certificate issued based on the main examination will remain valid, and they will not need to undertake any further assessments.
The board has established clear guidelines regarding eligibility for the second examination. Students who are absent in three or more subjects during the main exam, or those who fail to secure the minimum passing threshold of 33% in the main exam, will be classified under the 'Essential Repeat' category. These students will not be permitted to take the second board examination and will instead be required to reappear for the main examination in the following academic year.
Additionally, the new policy introduces a provision for provisional admission to Class 11. Students who do not meet the passing criteria in a maximum of two subjects during the main examination may be granted provisional entry into the next grade. This allows them to continue their studies while preparing for the remedial examination. Once the second examination is concluded, the final results will be declared, and the provisional admission to Class 11 will be made permanent based on the improved performance. Official passing certificates will be issued only after the final results are released following the completion of the second board examination cycle.
