Gujarat University PhD Admissions 2026: Over 2,500 Registrations Recorded Ahead of Entrance Test

Gujarat University has officially commenced its admission process for doctoral programmes for the 2026-27 academic session. The university has reported a significant response from prospective researchers, with total registrations reaching 2,586. Of these applicants, 2,142 have successfully finalised and submitted their applications through the university's official portal.

The application window, which opened on August 25, saw a surge in interest following a one-day extension to the registration deadline. This extension proved pivotal, as the university recorded 1,700 registrations in the period following September 9 alone. The university is now preparing to conduct the entrance examination for the upcoming cohort of doctoral students.

Entrance Examination Details and Admission Process

The university has scheduled the Gujarat University PhD entrance test for September 26. According to the latest data provided by the admission cell, more than 1,100 candidates are expected to appear for the written examination. This test is designed to assess the foundational research skills and subject-specific knowledge of the applicants. To facilitate the examination process, the university will soon release the official admit cards, which candidates must present in physical form to gain entry to the examination hall.

The current admission cycle covers a total of 727 vacant PhD seats across various disciplines, including arts, science, commerce, and management studies. It is important to note that candidates who have already qualified for national-level examinations, such as the National Eligibility Test (NET) or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), are exempt from appearing for the university's entrance test. However, these candidates are still required to monitor official counselling updates to complete the admission formalities.
