IIT Gandhinagar Announces Residential PG Diploma in AI-ML and Agentic AI

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar has officially launched a new six-month residential Postgraduate Diploma in AI-ML and Agentic AI Engineering. Offered through the institute's Competency Advancement Academy (CAA), the programme aims to equip students with advanced technical skills in artificial intelligence and machine learning, specifically targeting the growing demand for Forward Deployed AI Engineer roles.

Unlike many contemporary certification courses that are delivered online or on weekends, this diploma requires full-time, in-person participation on the IIT Gandhinagar campus. The curriculum is designed to be intensive, featuring over 600 hours of instruction. The programme is tentatively scheduled to begin on September 28, 2026, with admitted students expected to report to the campus by September 27, 2026.

Admission Process and Curriculum Highlights

A significant feature of this admission cycle is that candidates are not required to hold scores from national-level entrance examinations such as JEE or GATE. Instead, the selection process is merit-based and will be conducted through the All India National Proficiency Test (AINPT). This proprietary 120-minute examination will be followed by a panel interview to shortlist candidates for the limited number of available seats.

The academic structure of the diploma blends theoretical knowledge with practical application. Instruction will be provided through a collaboration between IIT Gandhinagar faculty and industry professionals from major global organizations, including Google, Amazon, Walmart, TCS, Deloitte, and BCG. A core component of the course involves hands-on experience, with students expected to complete between 15 and 20 deployed projects that simulate real-world AI and machine learning environments.

Programme Outcomes and Certification

Upon the successful completion of the six-month residential programme, participants will be awarded a PG Diploma from IIT Gandhinagar. Furthermore, graduates will be granted official IIT Gandhinagar alumni status.
