IIT Gandhinagar Opens Applications for Visiting Students Research Engagement Programme 2026-27

The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) has officially opened the application window for its Visiting Students Research Engagement Programme for the second semester of the 2026-27 academic year. This initiative is designed to offer final-year undergraduate and integrated master's students from premier technical institutions the opportunity to conduct research projects under the direct mentorship of IITGN faculty members.

The programme aims to provide participants with immersive, hands-on experience in academic research. By spending a full semester on the IIT Gandhinagar campus, students can engage in scholarly work that contributes to their academic development while earning credits toward their degree requirements.

Eligibility Criteria and Programme Structure

Participation in the programme is open to final-year students currently enrolled in four-year BTech or BS programmes, as well as five-year Integrated Master of Science programmes. Eligible applicants must be students at IITs, IISERs, or NITs. A key requirement for eligibility is that candidates must have maintained a CGPA of 8.0 or higher at the conclusion of their pre-final year of study.

Once admitted, students will register for the Research Engagement course, designated as IN 497. The academic structure at IIT Gandhinagar divides the semester into four distinct quads. Students are permitted to earn four credits per quad, with a maximum limit of 16 credits throughout their stay. Performance is evaluated at the end of each quad, and the host department will assign a formal letter grade based on the quality of the student's research engagement and overall contribution to their project.

Financial Support and Application Deadline

While students participating in the programme are exempt from paying tuition fees to IIT Gandhinagar for the IN 497 course, they are responsible for covering their own hostel and mess expenses. To assist with costs, the institute provides financial support linked to academic performance; students who achieve a B grade or higher in a given quad are eligible for a stipend of INR 5,000.

Interested candidates must submit their applications no later than 5 pm IST on October 27, 2026. Prospective applicants are encouraged to review the specific requirements and ensure all documentation is prepared in advance of the deadline to be considered for the upcoming semester.
