IIT Madras Postpones GATE 2027 Registration Start Date

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has officially delayed the start of the registration process for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027. Prospective candidates who were preparing to submit their applications are advised to wait for further updates, as the organizing body has not yet confirmed a revised schedule for the launch of the registration portal.

The application link, which was initially expected to go live on August 14 and subsequently rescheduled for August 27, remains unavailable. While the institute has not provided a specific reason for this latest postponement, the introduction of new security and verification protocols—including DigiLocker integration and facial recognition technology—may be contributing to the extended load-testing phase of the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS).

Status of Application Deadlines and Preparation

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the registration start date, IIT Madras has confirmed that the final deadlines for submitting applications remain unchanged. Candidates should continue to prepare their documentation, as the window for registration will eventually open and close within the previously established timeframe. The last date to submit applications with regular fees is September 27, 2026, while the final deadline for submissions involving late fees is October 5, 2026.

To ensure a smooth application process once the portal becomes active, students are encouraged to organize all necessary materials in advance. Required items include a valid government-issued photo identification, a verified DigiLocker account, scanned copies of a passport-sized photograph and signature, as well as relevant academic transcripts and category certificates if applicable.
