The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has officially commenced the choice filling and locking phase for the first round of NEET PG 2026 counselling. Following the release of the seat matrix for MD and MS programmes, eligible candidates are now invited to log in to the official portal at mcc.nic.in to submit their preferred college and course selections.

This critical stage of the admission process allows students to designate their desired institutions and specialisations for postgraduate medical seats across the country. The window for submitting and locking these preferences remains open until October 22, 2026. Participation in this process is restricted to candidates who have successfully completed their registration for the counselling cycle.

Understanding the NEET PG 2026 Counselling Process

The choice filling process serves as the primary mechanism for seat allocation in postgraduate medical education. Candidates are required to navigate the online portal to arrange their preferred colleges and courses in order of priority. Once these selections are finalised, students must lock their choices to ensure they are considered for the seat allotment process. It is essential for applicants to review the recently published seat matrix carefully before finalising their submissions to ensure their preferences align with available vacancies.

The MCC is responsible for managing the allocation of 50 percent of the total All India Quota (AIQ) seats for MD and MS courses. The remaining 50 percent of seats are managed by individual state authorities through their respective state-level counselling procedures. Candidates participating in the national-level counselling should ensure they meet all registration requirements, as the registration link remains active on the official website alongside the ongoing choice filling window.

As the October 22 deadline approaches, candidates are advised to complete their preference submissions well in advance to avoid potential technical issues. Following the conclusion of this phase, the committee will proceed with the seat allotment process based on the choices submitted by the registered candidates.
