NIT Rourkela to Confer Degrees on 2,033 Students at 24th Convocation

The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela has announced that it will host its 24th Convocation ceremony on September 12. During the event, the institute will officially confer degrees upon 2,033 students who have successfully completed their undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes.

The graduating cohort comprises 1,525 men and 508 women, with female students representing approximately 25 percent of the total recipients. The ceremony serves as the formal culmination of the academic journey for students across various disciplines, marking their transition from the institute to their professional careers.

Breakdown of Degree Recipients and Academic Achievements

The BTech programme accounts for the largest share of the graduating class, with 911 students set to receive their degrees, consisting of 723 men and 188 women. The MTech programme follows with a total of 514 graduates, split between 398 men and 116 women. Additionally, the MSc programme will see 182 students graduate, including 108 men and 74 women.

The institute also highlighted the achievements of its research scholars, noting that 190 PhD degrees will be awarded. Notably, women represent a significant portion of this group, accounting for 75 of the 190 doctoral recipients, which translates to nearly 40 percent of the PhD cohort—a higher proportion than the overall average for the graduating class.

Recognition of Excellence and Awards

Beyond the conferment of degrees, the 24th Convocation will feature a ceremony to honour students for their outstanding performance in both academic and co-curricular activities. A total of 86 medals and awards are scheduled to be presented to deserving graduates.

The distribution of these honours includes 11 Institute Gold Medals, 6 Endowment Gold Medals, 8 Endowment Awards, and 61 Institute Silver Medals. These awards are intended to recognize individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and excellence throughout their tenure at the institute. The upcoming event marks a significant milestone for the NIT Rourkela community as it celebrates the accomplishments of its latest graduating class.
