Delhi University (DU) has officially entered into a strategic partnership with the semiconductor giant AMD to bolster the artificial intelligence capabilities of its student body and faculty. The collaboration, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed this Thursday, aims to provide advanced technical training to as many as 10,000 participants over the next year.

This initiative is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements by offering hands-on experience in the development, testing, and deployment of artificial intelligence solutions. By integrating this program into its curriculum, the university intends to equip its community with high-tech skills that are increasingly essential in the modern global workforce, all while ensuring the training remains free of cost to the university.

Program Details and Technical Resources

Under the terms of this one-year agreement, AMD will introduce its global AI Engage Developer Program to the Delhi University campus. This program is structured to provide students and faculty with direct access to sophisticated tools and learning resources, including technical workshops designed to foster practical expertise in high-performance computing and AI application development.

A significant component of the partnership involves the provision of the AMD ROCm open-source software platform. This suite includes a comprehensive range of libraries, compilers, and developer tools that will enable students to build and execute applications directly on AMD graphics processors. To further support these technical efforts, the company is also supplying cloud-based graphics processing unit (GPU) credits, which will allow participants to run complex AI models efficiently within a cloud environment.

Focus on Future-Ready Skills

The partnership reflects a growing emphasis on digital literacy and specialized technical training within higher education institutions. By facilitating access to industry-standard software and hardware resources, Delhi University aims to create an environment where students can engage with real-world AI challenges. The initiative is expected to provide a substantial boost to the technical proficiency of those involved, preparing them for careers in fields that demand advanced computational and analytical skills.

As the program commences, the university and its partner will focus on the implementation of these workshops and the distribution of resources to the target cohort. Further updates regarding the specific enrollment procedures or workshop schedules for students and faculty are expected to be communicated through official university channels as the collaboration progresses.
