Galgotias University Hosts Smart India Hackathon 2026 Pre-Qualifier for Deep Tech Innovation

Galgotias University recently served as the venue for the Smart India Hackathon 2026 Pre-Qualifier, an event dedicated to fostering deep tech innovation among the nation's emerging engineering talent. The competition brought together 152 student teams who gathered on campus to demonstrate their technical proficiency and problem-solving capabilities through the development of scalable prototypes.

The participating teams were selected from an initial pool of 406 online entries, marking a significant stage in the hackathon process. By moving from theoretical concepts to functional hardware and software systems, the students aimed to address complex issues posed by prominent national organizations and government bodies.

Focus on National Challenges and Advanced Technology

The core objective of the hackathon was to transform intricate national problems into practical, technology-driven solutions. Throughout the event, students were tasked with tackling specific challenges framed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). Additionally, the competition included problem statements provided by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

The scope of the projects was broad, covering critical sectors such as cybersecurity, smart agriculture, and disaster management. Rather than relying on conceptual presentations, the teams were required to build and showcase advanced AI and robotics prototypes. This hands-on approach provided students with a platform to demonstrate their technical skills on a national stage, highlighting the role of academic institutions in supporting student-led startups and future technological growth.

Dr. Dhruv Galgotia, CEO of Galgotias University, expressed his support for the participants and the significance of the event. He noted that the development of genuine deep tech solutions requires students to engage with difficult problems and maintain persistence through the iterative process of trial and error.
