The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has officially announced a further delay in the registration process for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027. While the application portal was initially expected to open in mid-August, the institute has pushed back the start date to accommodate technical updates and ensure a smoother registration experience for candidates.
This latest revision follows an earlier adjustment that had moved the start date to August 27. Although a specific new date for the commencement of the application process has not yet been confirmed, IIT Madras is expected to make an announcement shortly. Despite the delay in the opening of the portal, the final deadlines for submitting applications remain unchanged, ensuring that the overall examination timeline stays on track.
The primary reason for the revised schedule is the integration of new digital verification protocols. IIT Madras is implementing enhanced measures to streamline the application process, specifically requiring candidates to utilize their DigiLocker accounts. To facilitate this, the institute has released instructional tutorials guiding students on how to prepare their documents.
Candidates are strongly advised to ensure their DigiLocker accounts are active and updated before the registration portal goes live. As part of the new technical requirements, applicants are instructed to create a dedicated folder within their DigiLocker account specifically named “GATE2027” to ensure seamless document retrieval during the online form-filling process. This step is intended to reduce errors and expedite the verification of credentials.
While the start date for the registration process is currently under revision, the closing dates for the GATE 2027 application window remain fixed. Candidates must complete their submissions by September 27, 2026, to avoid late fees. For those who miss the initial deadline, an extended window with a late fee will be available until October 5, 2026.
The registration process will continue to be hosted on the official Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GOAPS) portal. The standard procedure involves initial registration, followed by the detailed application form, document uploading, and the payment of the required application fees. Prospective students are encouraged to monitor the official IIT Madras GATE 2027 website regularly for the announcement of the new registration start date and any further updates regarding the examination schedule.
