WBJEE 2026: Participating Institutes Begin Offline Decentralised Counselling for Vacant Seats

The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) has confirmed that participating institutes are now conducting offline decentralised counselling to fill seats that remained vacant following the two-phase online counselling process. This shift to an institute-level admission process follows formal approval from the West Bengal State Higher Education Department, which aims to ensure that remaining academic spots are filled efficiently.

With an estimated 21,000 seats currently vacant across various participating colleges, the state authorities have authorised individual institutions to manage their own admission procedures. Candidates interested in securing a spot through this decentralised process are advised to monitor the official websites of their preferred institutions, as each college is responsible for issuing its own specific notification and application guidelines.

Application Procedures and Important Deadlines

Institutes have been instructed to facilitate the application process through dedicated online portals or email, though some institutions may also accept applications in an offline format. To ensure transparency, colleges are required to provide copies of their vacancy notices to both the West Bengal State Higher Education Department and the WBJEE board. Admission decisions will be strictly based on the candidates' merit ranks, individual preferences, and the availability of seats at the respective institutions.

Several prominent institutions have already set their specific timelines for this process. For instance, Jadavpur University has announced that the registration deadline for its decentralised counselling is October 23, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Similarly, Calcutta University has opened its application process, with a final submission deadline of October 27, 2026, at 2:00 PM. All participating institutes are mandated to conclude their entire admission process for the 2026 academic session no later than October 31, 2026.
