IIT JAM 2027 Information Brochure Released; Registration to Begin September 12

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has officially released the information brochure for the Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) 2027. Prospective candidates seeking admission into postgraduate programmes at participating IITs and other premier institutions can now access the detailed notification and guidelines through the official website at jam.iitkgp.ac.in.

Alongside the release of the brochure, the institute has announced a revision to the registration timeline. The application portal, known as the JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS), is now scheduled to open for candidate registration on September 12, 2026. The final date for submitting completed application forms remains unchanged, with the window closing on October 12, 2026.

Exam Structure and Application Guidelines

The IIT JAM 2027 examination is set to be conducted as a Computer-Based Test (CBT) on February 14, 2027. The test will be held in two distinct sessions to accommodate the seven different test papers: Biotechnology (BT), Chemistry (CY), Economics (EN), Geology (GG), Mathematics (MA), Mathematical Statistics (MS), and Physics (PH). The forenoon session, running from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, will cover Chemistry, Geology, and Mathematics. The afternoon session, scheduled from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm, will include Biotechnology, Economics, Mathematical Statistics, and Physics.

Candidates have the option to appear for either one or two test papers. Those choosing to sit for two papers must ensure they select subjects scheduled in different sessions. The examination format consists of three sections: Section A (Multiple Choice Questions), Section B (Multiple Select Questions), and Section C (Numerical Answer Type questions). It is important to note that while Section A includes negative marking for incorrect answers, Section B does not.

To apply, candidates must register on the JOAPS portal to generate login credentials. Applicants are advised to have necessary documentation ready, including a photograph, signature, Class 10 marksheet or certificate, and relevant category or PwD certificates. The application fee structure is tiered based on the number of papers and candidate category. For female candidates and those in the SC, ST, or PwD categories, the fee is INR 1,000 for one paper and INR 1,350 for two. For all other candidates, the fee is set at INR 2,000 for a single paper and INR 2,700 for two papers.
