IIT Guwahati and Miraclus Orthotech Join Hands for Cutting-Edge Orthopedic Technology

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati and Miraclus Orthotech, a prominent manufacturer of orthopedic implants, have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on pioneering research, development, and testing of advanced orthopedic implants and instruments. The agreement was formalized by Prof. Rohit Sinha, the Dean of R&D at IIT Guwahati, and Mr. Pranav Thaker, Managing Director of Miraclus Orthotec Pvt. Ltd. The signing ceremony was attended by notable figures including Prof. Sukumar Nandi, Prof. S. Kanagaraj, Prof. Souptick Chanda, and Mr. P. Kishore Kumar from IIT Guwahati, along with Dr. Kashif Akhtar Ahmed from AIIMS Guwahati, and Mr. Manas Mishra, Mr. Hardik Kakkadiya, Mr. Nikunj Patel, and Mr. Nithin Shajeendran from Miraclus Orthotec Pvt. Ltd.
This collaboration represents a significant advancement in biomedical engineering, combining IIT Guwahati’s cutting-edge research with Miraclus Orthotech’s leadership in the orthopedic industry. Together, the two entities aim to tackle key challenges in the medical device sector and provide high-quality, effective solutions to improve patient care.
Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT Guwahati, expressed that the institution is committed to leveraging technological advancements for societal benefit. He emphasized that the partnership with Miraclus Orthotech would help transform research into practical innovations that enhance healthcare outcomes, setting new benchmarks in medical device technology.
The partnership will focus on four primary areas:
  • Research and Development: Joint efforts to design the next generation of orthopedic implants and instruments.
  • Product Testing and Validation: Utilizing IIT Guwahati's world-class facilities to ensure that the products meet global quality standards.
  • Skill Development: Organizing workshops, training sessions, and knowledge-sharing programs to provide students and researchers with hands-on experience in medical device technology.
  • Intellectual Property Creation: Collaboratively developing patents and publishing research findings to further progress in the field.
Mr. Pranav Thaker, Managing Director of Miraclus Orthotech, emphasized that IIT Guwahati’s leadership in innovation makes the partnership ideal, aiming to bring impactful solutions to orthopedics. The MoU reflects IIT Guwahati's commitment to interdisciplinary research, innovation, and supporting India's medical device sector, aligning with the Make in India initiative.
IIT Guwahati and Miraclus will set up a facility with advanced prototyping and testing tools for orthopedic implants, fostering interdisciplinary research. The partnership will also launch industry-academia exchange programs to bridge research and practical application, along with a roadmap for regulatory approvals and commercialization of medical devices.
